Five nights out

The Orange Tree theatre

Richmond is worth a visit by everyone. It’s a lovely place, great buildings, fancy shops, teddy bears and chocolate shops, boat trips on the river, an historic theatre,,, but this is not it.

Come out of Richmond (District, Overground, trains to everywhere) station and turn right, cross the road and you can see it. The Orange Tree.

It’s a cosy theatre in the square, with a balcony. It attracts big names and there are some excellent productions.

But two warnings:

  • it is a tiny theatre, and sometimes tickets can be hard to find as they sell out very quickly
  • the leg room is not great. We prefer sitting upstairs on a corner, peering down on the action
