Five nights out

Union Chapel

Opposite Highbury and Islington (Victoria, Overground) station is Union Chapel. It’s a Grade I listed Gothic style church, but don’t let that put you off. It’s also one of the best venues in all London, seating roughly 850.

It’s a place where people come in and say ‘oh wow’, and that’s the performers!

They have a full programme of comedy, music, book signings, interviews, films… Food and alcoholic drinks are available in the bar. It’s a wonderful place that features on many dvds.

But two warnings:

  • there’s no reserved seating, so queues are long to get the best seats
  • the seats are hard (it’s a church)
  • no food or drink (beyond water, soda or chocolate tea cakes)in the church
  • the loos are outside and are, er, cosy
  • strict 10.30pm curfew (think of the neighbours)

OK, three bonus warnings.
