Obscure London places

Here are some places in London you are not likely to visit as they are a bit off the beaten track, but next time maybe?

Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace train station, or Finsbury Park (Piccadilly, Victoria, Thameslink, multiple services from King’s Cross and Moorgate), then W3 bus.

Situated in the heights of north London, Ally Pally has had a long and eventful history.

The grounds include a boating lake, several cafes, a golf course, two cricket pitches, a rose garden, an adventure park, a zoo (not there last time we went), in the summer you can have outdoor cocktails, watch a film, go to a funfair, bonfire night fireworks, there’s a garden centre and a bandstand…

The building has large halls for concerts, sports, exhibitions… There is a pub, an ice rink and an old theatre at the back. You can get tours, including the old BBC studios. Sadly, the old railway station was blocked off last time we were there.

Despite all this, and more, the best thing to go for is the view. That and the Soapbox race.
