Not so social

I don’t use any social networking and haven’t for years, maybe a decade.

I did have a Myspace account once. I see that is still going, sort of, but my account is long dead.

I was on FaceBook for a time and had many real friends. I posted pictures and news, but eventually left. The advertising got intrusive, the scammers were a daily occurrence and, while I posted stuff, many of my friends did not, making it unfair and a bit one way. And my best friend on FB died, and that was a blow.

After I left, a couple of people, folk I had known for decades, got very nasty. Why had I unfriended them? I hadn’t, I just quit. They have refused to speak to me since.

Twitter was just the same with more hate and fake facts. I lasted a week.

I also looked at Bluesky, but really wasn’t interested. Can’t tell you anything about any of the others.

Not super

There is a very annoying advert on tv and probably other places for the UK supermarket Sainsbury.

It features a voice over by Stephen Fry and shows an employee named Charlotte doing various tasks.

You may have seen it. If not, here’s a link.

Stephen Fry is an actor, writer and presenter who has an image of being rather posh, clever and superior to normal people. He uses long words to emphasise this, and apparently has a lot of fans.

His voice is very recognisable here and we don’t know whether or not he shops at this place. We suspect not, but lending, sorry selling, his voice to this advert will make people think “if it’s good enough for Fry it’s good enough for us”.

Charlotte is Charlotte Gant, an aspiring actress and not a Sainsbury employee at all, as far as we can see. We can’t say she has never been. She has a gofundme page for tuition money, and has appeared in other things. We wish her luck and success in her chosen career.
