A friend has been pestering us to use Words With Friends (it’s like Scrabble). We used it years ago, then it became horrid with adverts all the time.
So we installed it. You get screens full of adverts and popups. After every move there are minutes of adverts that you can only stop by closing the app. The ads can be the total scammer ads you see: your Facebook account has been deleted, you device is infected, your memory is run down, just install this app and… etc. Just not true, simply a scam.
For some reason I do not understand, it kills all the sound settings. Plus, we’ve caught it a few times trying to download stuff onto the phone without permission. Nasty stuff.
Not to mention the chat scammers… where do you live, are you married, any children…
We get it. These people have to make some money and be rewarded for making a popular product, but more people would use it if it were a safer and nicer place. The long list of 1* reviews tells the truth.
We’d love to be in charge of advertising laws. One thing we would do for sure is force advertisers to prove that a famous, recognisable ‘celebrity’ advertising some product has to be able to prove they really do use the product. And if there are issues with the product, whatever it is, the celebrity doing the advertising has to take some responsibility. They need to be liable along with the manufacturers and the advertising agencies.
