Where to stay

There are large hotels in central London, on The Strand, Oxford Street, Piccadilly, Kensington, Russell Square… The quality can be, um, ok. Last time we were staying in a central London hotel, finding one with a private bathroom was not easy.

And they are expensive.

The advantage is… get up in the morning, dress, have breakfast, walk outside and there you are.

There are nice hotels in central London, and there are ones that do offers and good rates and are worth a visit. And there are many not.

You don’t have to go far out of town for prices to come down. Hammersmith, Stratford, Richmond etc. Yes, it means you have some travel everyday to get out and about, so a bit of extra cost maybe and some time investment, but you could save a pile. When considering hotels, look at a map.

Airbnb

We’ve never used it, but know people who swear by it. There’s been some controversy here about companies buying property exclusively for Airbnb, charging fortunes for poorly maintained places, destroying the local communities.

We can’t say. If you like doing your own cleaning and washing and cooking while you are on holiday, rather than actual holidaying, then consider this.
