A Question of Something

Auntie BBC has announced that the long-running show A Question Of Sport is ceasing production.

QoS started proper in 1970. The format is very simple: two teams of three sporty people answer a variety of questions on, er, sport. There is a regular team captain for each side, sometimes a non-sporty but knowledgeable guest, and a host.

Hosts have included commentator legends David Vine and David Coleman. Captains included Ian Botham, Willie Carson, Bill Beaumont, Emlyn Hughes, John Parrott and many more.

The rounds usually involved identifying people, but just using different formats, like the picture board, the mystery guest or a home or away round.

Twelve British Songs… XII

…that defined the 60s and are not The Beatles.

Procol Harum

A Salty Dog

1969

We wanted to include Procol Harum. This is a band with a very mixed history, but in their early years they produced some absolute classics.

A Whiter Shade of Pale is their best known work, and this video deserves to be seen.

However, we have strong feelings for A Salty Dog. As the late Gary Brooker said, everyone loves a good minor key.
