Kubrick

These are the films we will be looking at:

  • Fear and Desire (1952)
  • Killer’s Kiss (1955)
  • The Killing (1956)
  • Paths of Glory (1957)
  • Spartacus (1960)
  • Lolita (1962)
  • Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
  • A Clockwork Orange (1971)
  • Barry Lyndon (1975)
  • The Shining (1980)
  • Full Metal Jacket (1987)
  • Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

If you know anything about cinema you will surely know some of those. It’s not a long list and you can see that in what was essentially the last twenty years of his life he made just two films.

And yes, we have included Spartacus because he did direct it. Or at least, he is credited with directing it.

We’re not going to talk about aborted projects or rumours, just those films he directed. So many of them have had their own books, so we’ll keep it brief. Maybe, if you haven’t seen some of them, you may be motivated to dig them out. Many are available on Bluray or 4K discs. All are or have been on dvd. Some get shown on tv or even cinemas, but rarely on film, rather digital transfers.
