Taxi

Accessibility

London cabs have wide doors that open fully and the door entrance is high. Every cab has, or should have, a ramp of some kind. Access is as easy as is possible. Some cabs are extra large with electric ramps and sliding doors.

If you have difficulties, the driver will be pleased to help.

If you are hailing a cab and will need the ramp, make sure that you are at a sensible place where the driver can park close to the pavement.

Inside the cab there are tip up seats to make space and seat belts for everyone. Please use them.

A driver cannot refuse to carry you or your party because you have a disability. They cannot refuse a guide dog or charge you extra for carrying any items you need (eg a wheel chair). They cannot leave the meter running if it takes you a little longer to leave the cab.

Most cab drivers we have met over the years will be happy to help.

There’s a long document about it here: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/taxis-and-private-hire/passengers-and-accessibility
