Train strikes

If you are going to (or coming from) Heathrow then you have plenty of transport choices and something should be running. For other airports, it may not be so easy.

If a service is hit by strike but trains are running in a limited way, then you might expect them to be very busy. To be honest, our limited experience is that they are not. People find alternate routes, or they stay home and avoid the whole mess.

There are plenty of sources of information on-line, and it helps to know what is going on. There’s nothing you can do about it, and we’re all in the same, er, boat. But if you are planning a day trip somewhere by train (eg Windsor) then do double check for strikes. If your journey fails because of a strike, you can usually get your money back, but only for the rail part of the day.

If you are going eg to Chichester to the theatre and transport is not happening, contact the venue in advance. Many are very understanding and may be able to arrange an alternate date (if possible, and you are lucky).
