Charing Cross

Things to do…

If you are there and have spare time… well look, it’s one of the busiest places in London, and, if you are coming for a holiday, chances are you will be there at some point anyway. We are not going to make a list of things to do because it will be a whole guidebook in itself.

Like: Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Embankment, The Strand, theatreland, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, all the big galleries…

Let’s just point out two:

  • under the arches of the railway station, off Villiers Street, is the Charing Cross theatre. Their productions are hit and miss but they are usually good value, compared with the hundreds of pounds other nearby theatres charge. Strange seating arrangement though, but great bar.
  • St Martin in the Fields cafe, downstairs in the crypt. Actually, the back of the church has an outside bar for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and it’s great fun to sit there and watch the world hurry by.
