The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band

And that was kind of that. The various members went their separate ways, Innes working with Monty Python, Stanshall on various projects.

Over the years there have been many re-releases and compilations. Cowan died in 1975 and Stanshall in 1995.

There were odd small reunions, but in 2006 the remaining members got together to satisfy fans’ hunger for the same, and more.

This included Innes, Smith, Slater, Ruskin Spear together with earlier members Bob Kerr, Sam Spoons and Vernon Dudley Bowhay-Nowell. Others, including Paul Merton and Stephen Fry, tried to fill the Stanshall spot.

These rather shambolic performances can be found on CD and DVD if you are lucky.

Innes died in 2019.

It had been planned, by Rodney Slater, to have one last and final show, a tribute to all the lost members, at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, but the virus stopped that, twice.

Any early albums are worth finding, espcially on the original vinyl. There are several solo albums too.

Let’s just enjoy a Bonzos’ concert:
