What is London?

It’s a city that is the capital of England, right?

Well, no, it’s not a city, it is a metropolitan area. It does contain two cities, the City Of London and the City of Westminster.

Confusing or what?

Let’s try and explain and give you some idea of your bearings and the size of the place.

London is London

Many years ago we had a site which was a basic guide to London. It was reasonably popular.

The idea was very simple: to provide absolutely basic information for anyone coming to this city for the first time for a holiday, or vacation, if you will.

It you’ve been here before you should know what’s what. If you’re here on business, your accommodation and travel is probably organised by someone else and you won’t need our help. But if you are coming for the first time, it can be confusing, so we provided some basic information.

There were no “10 best top restaurants to eat in London” nonsense. We weren’t sponsored and there was no advertising. We gave our own personal opinions if opinions were needed, and tried to suggest what to expect and how to avoid being ripped off.

Well, times change and we’re doing it all again. We see some terrible YouTube videos and Websites that tell you wrong stuff, so we will keep it simple and try our very best to be up-to-date and correct.

We hope it’s useful.

There will be a new edition every Sunday.

A BIG DISCLAIMER

We are writing these notes several months in advance. We have to. There is so much to collate and check.

Things change, and we will endeavour to keep it correct.

HOWEVER…

We cannot know in advance about extreme weather, industrial action, terrorist activity, protests and demonstrations, road or rail works, public events, natural disasters or any kind of thing that may disrupt your trip to London.

Consequently, we accept no responsibility for any information here which is not correct at the time you visit the UK. We expect you to double check everything yourself. It’s your holiday. We can’t be responsible for delays, diversions, closed buildings, restrictions, increased prices, unavailability or any other issues.

This is supposed to be a simple guide only. We’re sorry if you encounter problems, but don’t blame us.
