TRON: Legacy

It’s familiar stuff, just really all cgi once you get past the live action stuff at the start. The designs of craft etc have been modernised. There’s no obvious hand-drawn animation, and lots of lovely black and moody.

Olivia Wilde plays the token female (well, perhaps not quite, but nearly). She is the love interest, but could have been made more overtly sexy. But it’s Disney…

It looks great, especially in 3D.

The music is by Daft Punk and, if you don’t think about the plot too much, it all passes by quite nicely.

Except…

The bigly hyped thing was the de-aging of Jeff Bridges. Here we are 15 years on and people are still doing de-aging. And it doesn’t work, not then, not even now.

The faces look waxy and rather stiff, but the mouth is a big give away. It’s just not convincing. Maybe one day it will be perfected.

It did reasonably at the box office, but became a cult film.

Newly out on 4K and is worth a look.
