Piercing

Preparing for a piercing

Check opening times etc for your chosen studio.

Most operate a walk in policy, as piercings are very quick (so you may be in a queue).

Especially if you want something unusual or complicated, contact them. E-mail, webform or even on-line chat. Only telephone if you have to.

It may be that more than one piercer operates at a studio and the best person for your job is only there certain days. You may need to make an appointment (so keep it).

Take water. Have a little something to eat beforehand, to bolster up your energy.

Don’t take drugs (including pain killers) or alcohol. If you appear to be intoxicated, the piercer may not do their work.

If you are on the age limit for piercings, take ID. If you are underage, take a consenting parent. Different rules apply in different places, so make sure you know them and don’t get there and be disappointed.

You can take friends for support. Piercing studios tend to be busy and they may not be allowed inside. It is very unlikely they will be allowed in the piercing room. They will be getting in the way of the piercer doing their job. You can ask, but don’t get upset if they say no. Also, think what fun you will have when you reveal to your chums your new look.

Most places take cash. Cards get a surcharge that you will have to pay. Pay in advance, if you can.

In the USA, tips are required, from 27%. In other countries, less so though they are appreciated.
