Coming to London for Xmas

If you are thinking of coming for a holiday, because there might be a great atmosphere over here after all, it’s Xmas, then bear in mind:

  • the weather is grey and wet, the days are short and never really get daylight. Sightseeing can be a grim exercise.
  • places close, museums and galleries especially, theatres too. You will need to organise food for Xmas a long time in advance.
  • there are decorations and there is a Christmas spirit, sort of, in the tourist places. Beyond that and it’s business as usual. Is it a special time? Not really, in patches maybe but mostly it’s selling…
  • transport is tricky, not just from the weather but closures due to works and for staff to have holidays.
  • prices will be higher.
  • Xmas is a time for children. There’s not much for grown ups. Londoners get fed up by the chaos.
  • some shops and other places can be lovely, but you can experience it all in a day. There will be Xmas concerts. There will be people begging for money.
