Waterloo/Waterloo East

Underground

There are so many entrances to the tube, including some direct from platforms that are open at rush hours, narrow passageways and more. However, the main entrance in the station is near to platform 19.

There is also another big entrance on Waterloo Road, but that’s not the best, nor is the one on York Road.

It’s a confusing station with multiple ticket machines and entrances. The signposting is OK, though. The whole station is a real warren of steps, escalators, infinitely long passageways but it is accessible.

Lines served:

Northern gets you south to Battersea Power Station, Clapham etc, north to Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road, Warren Street and onwards.

There is also the Bakerloo Line. South it only goes to Elephant and Castle. North goes to Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Marylebone, Paddington and Edgware Road. This is definitely a more useful choice if that’s where your destination is.

In addition, there’s the Waterloo and City line. This is a limited service to Bank (only) in the city. It stops at, er, Bank. That gets you to the Central and the other branch of the Northern.
