Arriving in London: Heathrow

Underground

The Piccadilly line runs to all terminals. It also goes into central London through many of the areas with lots of hotels eg Earl’s Court, Piccadilly, Russell Square… And, of course, you can change to other lines.

The service is cheap. We cover methods of paying elsewhere, but you can use Oyster or a contactless card of some kind. Depending on various things, the fare could be up to £6. The service is very regular during the day.

Disadvantages? It’s a good long trek down to the platforms, with lifts and escalators.

You have to carry your own bags. That’s fine if you are travelling light. Multiple heavy bags on the tube are no fun, especially if you are going to a station with steps.

There’s no fast service. Every train stops at every stop, making it slow and dull. Allow an hour maybe…

You may still have a walk when you get to your destination station.

Rush hour.
