There were some things I really didn’t understand about magic. What’s the appeal? Is it something nerdy, like train spotting? When people watch a trick, and especially an illusion, what do they think they are watching, and why are they clapping, or rather, what are they clapping?
Why are so many magicians male? Yes, there are females, but relatively few. Why are assistants usually sexy females scantily clad?

Is it all a sex domination thing?
Why does magic appeal? Is it more than just people liking to be tricked, a suspension of disbelief, a breaking of the rules of life?
Spoiler alert. I didn’t write the book. Actually, that’s not true. I did have a plan of how it might go, and did a rough draft of the first chapter to see if it would pan out, but stopped for reasons that will become clear another day.
