Snookered

I don’t enjoy the Ronnie O’Sullivan stye of play that we see: rapid breaks and then say your opponents are rubbish. The game is called ‘Snooker’. It’s a tactical game, like chess with balls. I would far rather watch an hour of Cliff Thorburn or someone giving their opponent a hard time with tactical play than arrogant potting.

Snooker has become a big thing, and there’s lots of money to be had.

One very pleasing thing is the introduction of female referees. There’s no reason a female can’t do this job, and I don’t see why a female cannot take on a male in actual play (as they now seem to do in darts).

Michaela Tabb was the first referee, I believe. Something happened (you can read about it) and she is not around these days.

At the current championships there are several females, the best known being Desislava Bozhilov. She seems efficient and accurate and quite jolly, but, of course, she will not be allowed to referee the final. Good heavens no…
