Newark

Newark was a place we had passed through on the train dozens of times, then it featured on a tv show, so we had to go.

There are lots of old and wobbly buildings, a castle (ruins), a river and the odd market.

It’s a bit of a journey from King’s Cross, heading north towards York and Leeds, but worth a visit, especially if you like antiques.

Nottingham

We always love Nottingham, though it’s a fair journey from London.

It;s the home of Robin Hood, of course, and there’s a castle and an imposing town hall.

It’s also a place full of museums, wine bars, good shops and the legendary Nottingham lace.

Oh, and the caves

Chichester

You can get to Chichester by train from Victoria. It’s not far from Bognor Regis, on the way to Portsmouth.

There was some poll where it was considered one of the worst places in the country to move to because the folk are so snooty and unwelcoming.

However, the theatre, well, two theatres are top notch, and Goodwood race course is near too.

Maybe Arundel is a better bet…
