The county of Kent is easy to reach from London. Trains go from Victoria, Charing Cross, London Bridge, but we prefer to go on the High Speed train from St Pancras.

As well as Canterbury, Rochester and Dover, there are some lovely and historic places like Sandwich and Faversham:

But, if you like your seafood, especially oysters, then Whitstable is the place to go.

It’s a quiet place. There’s a bit of an old town, a ‘castle’, lots of very clean beach and cocktail bars and oyster shops everywhere.

Colchester (out of Liverpool Street, go to Colchester Town station not Colchester North) always had a claim for being the oldest town in the UK. It isn’t anymore as it recently became a city.

It is a place with some history. The castle and park are worth a visit, for sure, but in recent years the whole city has become run down and almost abandoned.

The main high street had many empty shops, and the new arcade felt unsafe when we were there just a few weeks ago. Using a public toilet got us involved with a gang of lads who were smashing the toilet bowls and pulling the doors off the cubicles.

The St Botolph’s Priory was overrun with vagrants presumably shooting up.

Famous for the boating stuff.

Take a train from Paddington and maybe change at Twyford.

We’ve mentioned it before, as it’s a famous place and very nice. You can also try Marlow and Cookham which are both in the same general area.
