The Repair Shop II

Quality of repair

Sometimes, the final repair, at least from what we see on the screen, is stunning. Sometimes it is less so. We don’t get to see the actual repair, of course, just a selected view on the tv screen.

We’ve always assumed there are things that happen off screen that we don’t see, especially the expert discussing with the customer what has to happen. So, the final result may not be quite such a surprise.

On a recent one, we saw a metal light, the electrical flex had to be replaced for safety, of course. The glass was broken and had to be replaced. The metal base was full of holes and was so thin it could not be repaired, so a new one was made. Same with the metal top. There was a cylindrical metal body that had split for some reason. Repairing that would also have been tricky, so a new one was made. Somewhere under the rust, they found evidence of purple colour, so painted the whole lamp purple.

We did wonder just how much of the original lamp remained or what the customer actually thought of the result.
