Xmas TV

BBC Xmas had, for many years, a visit to a hospital where sick children pretended to be pleased to see Noel Edmonds.

The country stopped for The Queen at 3pm. She would talk about the Commonwealth, her family, religion and people who were struggling (like, she ever struggled for anything).

This year King Charles did it. We didn’t watch, but gather he talked about religion and people who were struggling (like, he ever struggled for anything).

Then there would be a big family friendly film, like The Sound Of Music.

In the evenings, certainly in the late 1960s, there was something called Christmas Night With The Stars. It featured pre-recorded short (eg 15 minute) sketches from favourite shows like Steptoe and Son, Dad’s Army and even Benny Hill, all linked by favourite entertainers.

And Morecambe and Wise had a special.

This year it has just been repeated films, a couple of comedy specials and more films.

And we’re not picking on BBC. ITV had all the usual Carry On films, On The Buses, James Bond, celebrity quiz shows with Bradley Walsh.
