Why piercers are underpaid

The jewellery is not massively expensive, nor the tools, but you pay for the piercer’s experience, knowledge, skill and advice. Mine has been in the business for more than twenty years, and she knows.

There are things piercers generally won’t do. it’s unlikely someone will be pierced, or tattooed, if they are obviously drunk. My piercer has said there are some things she will not do, but few. Sometimes she advises against something, but if you insist she will do it, finding the best way to achieve the best results.

They have seen it all before, don’t worry. If there’s blood, they will deal with it. In all the piercings I have had, the total amount of blood has been miniscule. It happens.

If you are not happy or need advice, go back to the piercer and ask. That’s what they are there for, and usually they take pride in their work. They want happy customers.
