The Adventurer

To say the series is poor is to put it mildly. There is a box set of all the episodes and you can see for yourself.

It is clear from the interviews that Gene Barry was beyond obnoxious and everyone hated him. The stories, at 25 minutes, rattle past so fast they are hard to follow. There’s no continuity or explanation, and real oddities like cars driving through the UK countryside, past sign post for Maidenhead, turning a corner and being in Italy.

The series was made on film, which presumably still exists. The box set I have makes no effort to improve the quality. The colours are faded, the sound hard to hear, the print dirty and with tears. Clearly no-one thought it was worthwhile restoring this dross.

I would love to know just how much Barry got paid per episode…
